Barton Stud

History

Barton Stud was purchased in 1925 by two brothers, Huttleston and Henry Broughton, the following year they purchased Anglesey Abbey, Cambridge in order to be close to the stud. During the Second World war the brothers served in the army and during this time the stud  was leased to the Aga Khan, who stood stallions such as Tehran, Dastur, Umiddad and Umidwar and Nasrullah. From 1954 to 1989 the stud was managed for the Broughton family by Major John Critchley-Salmonson  and upon his retirement the late Joss Collins ex BBA managed the stud until his early death.

Other stallions to stand at Barton Stud have been Terimon, Charmer, Most Welcome and Night Shift. The stud does not currently stand stallions.

The stud remains in the Broughton family, with the present owner James Broughton, inheriting the stud and Manor Farm from his father Lord Fairhaven in 1997.  During the last 14 years the stud has been continually upgraded. Phil Haworth joined last year to take up the position of Stud Manager. Formerly of the Royal Studs where he was assistant manager to Joe Grimwade.
